Signature Black Carved
Our black carved stoneware pieces are inspired by the Chinese potters of the Sung Dynasty (11th-13th centuries), who have intrigued potters with the beauty of their black and celadon wares. Each of our black carved stoneware pieces has a color, texture, and character of its own. No two are alike. They are individually handmade, dipped in an iron rich liquid called clay slip, and then the design is drawn freehand. The background of the decoration is then carved away, removing the layer of slip and exposing the clay body. This creates a relief surface of two different colors. The pots are bisque-fired, slipped in chun glaze, and fired for a second time to 2,360 degrees. These products are oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe. No two products are alike.
